Christmas A Day of Love, Compassion and Gratitude
Christmas is among the most celebrated holidays of the year. As majority of the world’s population follows the Christian faith this is a day that people around the world from different cultures and ethnicities join in gratitude for the birth of our savior Jesus Christ. The weather might be colder during this time of the year but the love we all feel for each other on this momentous occasion creates warmth in our hearts which brings us all closer to each other.
This is the day when we all let go of any animosity we might have for one another to share the love and joy we feel out of gratitude for the One who helped us all regardless of the consequences.
Christmas is the time of the year when we all help each other by being compassionate. It is an occasion when those with more help those with less. On Christmas we break free of the barriers created by the segregation of society and treat each other with kindness.
Happiness and Christmas go hand in hand. We can hear Christmas carols in each neighborhood where all those who sing and listen gather around a warm fire. We show our love and devotion to the one that guided us to the righteous path. We give presents to all those that we love and care for.
Our children are the happiest on this holiday as it is the time when they get a winter break from school and receive all the gifts they wish for from Santa Clause. Santa might be considered by many as a myth but it is out of appreciation for Saint Nicholas that this tradition has been carried out through time. Kids make a list for Santa of the gifts they want on Christmas which they open on the morning of Christmas eve.
Christmas eve is celebrated with a delicious turkey and pudding meal. Among the many other traditional Christmas rituals is the concept of having a tree that is decorated with lights, statutes, baubles and the Star of Bethlehem which is placed on the top. This is a tradition that has its origins in Germany.
There are many ways that we as a society celebrate this day. Among them is the famous hanging of the mistletoe plant. If a person stands under the hanging plant others are obliged to give them a kiss.
There are many tales and folklore created relating to Christmas. One is about Scrooge a man that was overly prudent with his finances and didn’t share his wealth even on the day of sharing, Christmas. There is also the tale of “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” which is about one who tries to bring sadness on the day of joy and happiness. However each tale tries to teach a lesson that no matter how difficult the problems and how hard the time we all must join hands with each other to share the spirit of love.
Regardless of how many difficulties we have in life we must always show our gratitude for the one that gave us true guidance. We must appreciate the idea of caring for others selflessly.
